The Brats of Clarence
A new play by Paul Menzer, The Brats of Clarence is a hilarious send up of Shakespeare's greatest storytelling bits. King Henry VII, a swaggering jerk with an heir problem and no desire to connubialize with his queen toward repairing it, has his crown challenged by three upstarts: the noble Edward, locked away long ago in the Tower; the curious Ned, a disgruntled shepherd with a mysterious past; and the fashionable Perkin, whisked away from his French beginnings and now improbably hatching a brogue takeover with the gritty graces of all Scotland.
As these three Brats race for the throne, it's the usual Bedlam fare: hilarity, cross dressing, pirate posturing, undiscovered discoveries, long-lost findings, academic disastrousment, and drunken carousing--and all of this, at the command of the King himself, in absolutely no blank verse!
Featuring Emily Abrams, Andy Bond, Tom Coiner, Robert Deike, Brock England, Hildreth England, Kathleen Fletcher, Matt Kozusko, Mark Lovell, Robert Matney, Weldon Phillips, Shanna Smith, Joseph Trent, and Franklin Trumpy
The Brats of Clarence was written for, and originally staged by, the American Shakespeare Center at the Blackfriars Playhouse. Information on ASC productions can be found here.
Bedlam Faction thanks Paul Menzer for permission to bring this play to Austin for its regional premier
