Tis Pity Reviews

**Congratulations to Carie Esquenazi for her Critics' Table nomination for Best Supporting Actress**

'Tis Pity She's a Whore may have been written in the late 1620s by John Ford, but thanks to its disturbing premise, bits of comic relief and gruesome ending, it plays like a modern-day horror story. Arts collective Bedlam Faction, which has tickled audiences with rambunctious productions of "The London Cuckolds," "Romulus" and a stage version of "Reefer Madness," could have given this Grand Guignol play a campy turn. Bravely, and successfully, the company has chosen to make its audience squirm. "
--Jamie Smith Cantara, Austin American-Statesman

"Although some of the best lines are comedic, 'Tis Pity She's a Whore doesn't let the audience forget that this is a tragedy to the nth degree. The final scene will leave audiences aghast with its shocking and gruesome denoument. This is not a production for the young or the faint of heart, but if you like a good surprise, 'Tis Pity delivers. "
--Laura Radloff, Daily Texan

"Reviving Ford's play is the Bedlam Faction, as smart a bunch of actors as you'll find. They take this extra-dense language and make it crystal clear; in their oratorical care, John Ford's text is accessible, the characters comprehensible, and the story relatively easy to follow."
